Robert “Bob” Potter, 78, of Bucyrus, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Unger Park Acute Care Center after a long and courageous battle with Lewy body dementia.

Bob was born on February 10, 1947, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Rex and Betty (Herman) Potter. He was a 1965 graduate of Ontario High School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as a member of the 101st Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He later concluded his military service with the Ohio Army National Guard.

Bob worked for 35 years at Timken, retiring in 2002. He went on to spend another 10 years in quality control at PDC, a company that inspected roller bearings. Bob was a hardworking, detail-oriented man who took pride in every job he held.

Bob met Theresa Marie Rauth, through her mother, who was his neighbor at the time. He quickly swept her off her feet, and after a brief courtship, they were married on October 27, 1990. Theresa survives him and cherishes the 34 beautiful years they shared.

Bob had a big heart and an even bigger presence. He was quick to drop everything to help someone or stop what he was doing to strike up a conversation. He was fiercely devoted to his family and friends, always showing up for school events, games, and special moments involving his children and grandchildren. Bob enjoyed reminiscing, talking about his grandchildren and celebrating with those he held dear. He also had a generous spirit and often went out of his way to help those less fortunate.

An avid traveler, Bob lived for the thrill of new adventures. He and Theresa created a lifetime of memories exploring the country together — often with a stop at a casino along the way. He also loved riding motorcycles and spent many joyful years on his 1989 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic, discovering scenic routes and new horizons.

Bob took great pride in everything he did—from maintaining a pristine yard and keeping his vehicles spotless, to taking excellent care of himself.

He enjoyed dancing, attending sporting events, fishing, and tinkering around the house. For relaxation, Bob liked to lounge in his robe with a warm cup of coffee, watching old westerns, action movies, or chuckling at the antics on Jerry Springer.

He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Theresa Potter; his children, whom he proudly referred to as his greatest accomplishments: Cami (John) Weaver, Bobbie (Terry) Tuttle, Cory (Susan) Potter, Robbi Potter, and Dominic (Jessie) Potter; many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Judy (Ken) Cameron and Garry (Jerri) Potter; sisters-in-law, Nancy Potter and Vickie (Jack) Baldy; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Dick Potter.

All services for Bob will be held on Tuesday, April 8, at Wise Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:55 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 4:00 p.m., officiated by his son, Pastor Cory Potter. Military rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard and the Bucyrus Veterans Military Funeral Detail. Bob will be privately inurned at the Oakwood Cemetery Columbarium.

If desired, donations may be made to Father’s Heart Healing Center or another organization that does good for others. Contributions will be accepted through the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may also be shared on his guestbook page at www.wisefuneral.com.
