Robert H. Priebe, age 79, of Milwaukee, WI died peacefully in his childhood home of Eagle River, WI.
Robert graduated fourth in his class from Eagle River High School in 1962, and won the Wisconsin Legislative Scholarship. Four years later, he graduated magna cum laude from U.W. Stevens Point with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and English with a minor in economics. By August of that same year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War. Stationed in Saigon, he specialized in computer programming along with responsibilities of data entry, compiling aircraft statistics.
Upon completion of his service to his country, he briefly taught high school, in the Milwaukee area before signing on to work in a life long career for the Milwaukee Public Library system. Firstly, employed with the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped and then later transferring to the Ready Reference department. Robert was employed by the Milwaukee Public Library until his retirement in 2011.
Robert was a longtime resident of Milwaukee, WI with a cottage on Nelson Lake in Eagle River which was built originally by his father as a hunting shack in 1936. This cottage was also later used by the family as the main house was built. Before becoming Robert's summer get away, this cottage along with a second cottage were rented to family and friends under the name of Priebe's Green Meadow Cottages.
Robert was proceeded in death by his parents Gustave and Irene Priebe, his big sister Elaine and library pal, Mary Schoonover. He is survived by his older brother William and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert will be best be remembered for his sense of adventure and fun that he brought to any gathering. He was a beloved son, brother and uncle who will be forever missed but never forgotten.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday January 15, 2024 at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, WI. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
