Robert Eugene Reidt, 96, a retired lieutenant in the Spokane Fire Department, passed away surrounded by family on March 7, 2026. A lifelong Spokane area resident, he was born on January 29, 1930, to Francis and June Gray Reidt and was a 1949 graduate of Rogers High School. On January 27, 1951, he married Norma Mantello, and the two recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. In addition to his career as a firefighter, Bob was a journeyman glazier and home builder, including homes that he built for his own family, along with a vacation cottage at Lake Cocolalla, Idaho.
Bob was beloved by friends and family for his positive outlook and quickness with a joke, as well as his genuine concern for the well-being of everyone he met. Bob made friends easily and for life; even in his final months, he was making new friends. For years, Bob and his firefighter colleagues made hunting trips to Idaho and Wyoming. In retirement, he and his wife, Norma, spent many years traveling and living the "snowbird" life in sunny Arizona, where he achieved local fame as a champion pickleball player.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his daughters, Robin (Steve) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Allison of Blaine, Washington; his brother, Don (Gladys); four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Vernon "Sonny" Reidt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Spokane. Interment will be private.
