Robert Roth Obituary
Published by Legacy on Jul. 29, 2025.
On July 24, 2025, Robert "Bob" Roth went Home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was 87.
Bob's life was a living testament to grace, fueled by a quiet fire to ensure that every person he met knew this simple, unshakable truth: Jesus loves you-deeply, endlessly, and without condition. In every endeavor-from heartfelt conversations to acts of service-Bob let the Lord's light shine through him, touching lives with kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
He was born on January 14, 1938 in Crvenka, Yugoslavia to the late Peter and Theresa (Schneider) Roth, and immigrated to the United States with his parents shortly after.
Bob's journey of faith began early, nurtured by his mother who faithfully brought him to Sunday school. He grew to love going to church, youth group gatherings and singing in the choir. But it was at church camp where his faith became personal when Bob responded to the saving grace of Jesus. He was overcome with awe and joy, deeply moved that Jesus had died on the cross-for him. That life-changing encounter lit a fire in his soul that never dimmed.
It was during a 1957 Sunday evening sing at church that Bob first laid eyes on Judy Galat. His heart was stirred in that moment and shortly after, with all the courage he could muster, he made the trip to Akron to see her. That bold step of faith and love marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Bob and Judy were married in 1958 and spent the next 61 years building a life rooted in faith, love, and shared purpose until her passing in 2019.
During his school years, he worked at the Buckeye Bakery, putting in hours before heading to class. At 16, his father surprised him with a new car. Bob used that car not only to cruise the streets of Mansfield, but offered rides to church and church camp. After earning his degree from Ashland college, Bob taught 25 years in the Mansfield City Schools. But instead of retirement, Bob had his second calling at Mansfield Christian School. There, he spent 20 years teaching, serving on the board, and leading the SCRIP office, where his friendly nature and personality helped him connect with nearly every business owner in town.
Bob never met a stranger-only friends waiting to be made. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, showing kindness through actions as much as words. His love for driving led to many adventures and he delighted in exploring new places.
Bob is survived by his loving children Bob (Kathy) Roth, Tara (John) Thorman, and Anne (Mike) Risinger, grandchildren Ben (Becky) Granter, Nick (Joy) Granter, Lucy Oliver, Maddy Guera, Lauren Roth, Blake (Anna) Roth, Luke (Madison) Roth, Jake (Kayla) Risinger, Jillian (Logan) Rapp, and Justina (Jaeson) Lister, 19 great grandchildren and one brother Earl (Jean) Roth.
The Roth family will receive guests from 3-7 pm on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Crossroads Church, Ontario Campus and again on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 10–11 am. A Celebration of Life service will be held immediately following at 11 am.
