Robert Lyon Sammet

Robert "Bob" Lyon Sammet, 80, beloved husband of Diane Gale (Shear) Sammet, went to be with the Lord on May 3, 2024. Born in Ashland, Kentucky, Bob was the son of the late Paul Gerhardt and Bonnie Lyon Sammet. He was a graduate of the Ashland Senior High School, Virginia Military Institute, and Keller School of Management.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Kathleen (Todd) Hatchett of Florida and Caren (Tom) Fuller of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Bob was an avid supporter of the United States Military. He served as a captain in the U.S. Army for six years and was a Vietnam veteran. After leaving the military, Bob took a job with Koppers, Inc. in a chemical manufacturing plant in Chicago, IL. After obtaining his MBA, he transitioned into sales. In 1985, he joined Morton International, where he became the North American Business Manager for the Adhesives and Coatings group. Bob spent 35 years in Chicago. Initially, he declined to go to Chicago, but the Lord had a different plan for Him. It was in Chicago in 1973 that Bob came to know the Lord as his personal Savior. He became very active in church, working in children's Bible clubs, VBS, teaching adult Sunday school for 20 years and serving as a Deacon for 25+ years.
After retirement, for five months out of the year for the next seven years, he volunteered at Camp Joy in Whitewater, WI. Bob enjoyed working with the young people during summer camps and school camps in the fall. After moving to Pensacola, Florida to be near family when he was poor in health, he still volunteered to assist in monitoring the hallways for the children's ministry during the Sunday evening services. He assisted with funeral meals, and served in the Connect Ministry as long as he was able.
Funeral services for Bob Sammet will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at the Mullenix Chapel at Pensacola Christian College. The family will receive friends for visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. followed by the service at 12:30 p.m. Bob will be laid to rest at Barrancas National Cemetery.
