John Sammet Obituary
John worked for Xerox Corporation for 40 years, dedicated to leading with integrity and honor. In 2008 he retired, relocating from Westport, Connecticut to Venice, Florida.
Soon after arriving, he became active in the Venice Yacht Club and Venice Youth Boating Association (VYBA). During his time with the VYBA, he joined the board, eventually becoming the Treasurer and later the Chairman.
As a member of the Venice Yacht Club, he spent 10 years as the historian, culminating in authoring Past - Present - Future, a book of the 70-Year History of the Venice Yacht Club.
John will be remembered for his many contributions to the VYBA, including the outdoor boat racks that were dedicated to him and his wife by the Venice Yacht Club Commodore. His greatest joy, however, was being associated with the young VYBA sailors.
John was always available to offer support to help them find their footing wherever their passions led. As they say at the VYBA, "Right side up...on the water...and in life!"
John was a dedicated member of St. Boniface Episcopal Church on Siesta Key, where he was a member of the Friends of Music committee, having a lifelong passion for music.
John leaves his wife Bonnie, daughter Lauren Perry, her husband Jimmy, and grandchildren Benjamin and Kaitlyn. He also leaves a brother, Robert Sammet (Diane) two cherished nieces Kathleen (Todd Hatchett) and Caren (Pastor Tom Fuller) and multiple great nieces and nephews.
A sService for John will be held at St. Boniface at 11am on Friday, May 10, 2024 followed by interment of ashes in the St. Boniface Columbarium.
A reception for family and friends will follow in the adjacent Parish Hall. St. Boniface is located at 5615 Midnight Pass Road on Siesta Key.
Remembrances for John's legacy may be made in the form of contributions to his two favorite organizations: St. Boniface Friends of Music(https://www.bonifacechurch.org/friends-of-music) or the Venice Youth Boating Association (https://vyba.wildapricot.org/About-Us).
