Kevin O'Connell Obituary

Kevin W. O'Connell was born June 30, 1949 to James and Florence O'Connell in New Haven, Connecticut. Kevin attended St Bernadette for grade school and graduated from Wilbur Cross High School. Kevin received a degree in Civil Engineering from Wooster Polytech, graduating as a Lt in the army. He later received a master's degree from NYU.

After college, Kevin served briefly in the Army at the end of the Vietnam war. He was trained as an artillery officer but was mustered out when the war ended.

He then went to work in Manhattan for Consolidated Edison and lived in the city. After leaving Edison, he moved back to New Haven and worked for Factory Mutual in Connecticut. He then worked for WR Grace in Manhattan but commuted from New Haven. When Grace moved to Florida, Kevin stayed in Connecticut and went back to work for Factory Mutual.

Kevin was always a giving person and retired early to care for his parents and later for his oldest brother, James. In retirement, he worked for H&R Block.

Kevin loved to ski. He had two condos on Mt Okemo in Vermont, where he hosted his WR Grace buddies to a New Year's ski week every year. He also loved to bike.

In the end, Alzheimer's caught up with him and he moved to Florida to be with his sister and brother-in-law.

Kevin is survived by his sister, Aileen Beckman. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Florence O'Connell, his brother James O'Connell and his brother Capt. Brian O'Connell USN (Ret).

Funeral arrangements will be by W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 N. Main St., Branford, CT 06405.

To Kevin's Family: I extend to you my deepest condolences on the loss of your brother, brother-in-law Kevin. Kevin and I worked on two Wilbur Cross class reunions with him, and I can say he was the best recording secretary and records keeper ever. Always a kind gentleman, we worked seamlessly in keeping our records up to date. I know too well about caring for a family member with Alzheimer's Disease. May he rest in eternal peace....
