Robert Sanchez, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on December 21, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on October 18, 1948, in Wharton, Texas to the late Vincente and Anita Hernandez Sanchez.
Robert was raised in Wharton and attended Wharton High School. He married Melida Longoria on April 11, 1980, in Wharton. He worked as a carpenter and electrician in the construction field for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed family gatherings, playing poker, and watching the Astros play. Following retirement, he was often seen in his garden taking care of his vegetables, watering his wife’s flowers, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching them play sports. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Vincente “Ben” Sanchez, Jr., Enrique “Henry” Sanchez, Richard Sanchez, Reynaldo Sanchez, and Mario Sanchez and sisters, Mary Sanchez Hernandez, Genevieve Sanchez Ortiz, Olga Sanchez and Terry Sanchez.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Melida Longoria Sanchez of Boling; children, Michael Sanchez of Stafford, Michelle Lievano and husband, Alex of Stafford, R.J. Sanchez and wife, Mandy of Boling, Sion Sanchez and wife, Niomi of Newgulf and Laura Sanchez and husband, Brian Alameda of Wharton; sisters, Aurora Sanchez, Linda Sanchez Arrambide and husband, Andrew, brothers, Lupe Sanchez and wife, Dolores, Remideo Sanchez and wife, Georgia, John Sanchez and wife, Kim, and Joe Sanchez and wife, Diana, grandchildren, Isabella, Christopher, Brian, Jonathan, Valarie, Kristen, Josh, Xavier, Myrissa, Robert J. Jr. (Robby), Romeo, Rico, Ramon, Jessica, Bianca, Angelique, Annora, Amelia, Vanessa, Larissa, Melissa and Dominic, great grandchildren, Analiya, Lola, Leia, Lucy, Azariah, Grayson, Asyha and Gabriella along with over 220 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Wharton Funeral Home on Sunday, December 28, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary service that evening at 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with Father Antonio Perez officiating. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Robby Sanchez, Romeo Sanchez, Rico Sanchez, Dominic Macek, Xavier Sanchez and Kevin Moreno.
