Obituary of Robert Scalzo

Robert Scalzo, 92, of Freehold passed away on January 3, 2025 at Brandywine Howell by Monarch. He was born and had lived in Brooklyn before settling in Freehold in 2004. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Robert had a long and fulfilling career, starting as a mailman for the US Postal Service in 1955. He later went on to work for the New York City Parks Department as a maintenance man for 25 years. After retiring, he returned to the United States Postal Service as a Clerk at the Prospect Park Post Office for 7 years. In his free time, he enjoyed horse racing, computer activities such as making photos and videos for his family and capturing memories through family photos.

Towards the end of his life, Robert needed assistance lovingly provided by the staff of the Reflections Memory Care Unit at Brandywine of Howell. His family is immensely grateful for their steadfast care.

Robert is predeceased by his parents, Dominic and Florence Scalzo; sister, Marie Gray; and grandson, Joseph Scalzo. He is survived by his wife, Marie Scalzo of Freehold; three children, Joseph Scalzo and his wife, Maria of Lincroft, Linda Paliaga and her husband, Dominic of Howell, and Leanora Chojnowski and her husband, Douglas of Howell; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth and her husband, John, Denise and her husband, Wayne, Anthony and his wife, Lyndie, Robert and his wife, Amy, Christopher and his wife, Dana, Melissa and her husband, Adam, Alex and his wife, Valentina and Adam; sixteen great grandchildren, John, Anthony, Alexandria, Joseph, Madison, Nicholas, Lacey, Lainey, Anna, Chase, Greyson, Audrey, Addisyn, Theodore, Vincent and Natalie.

A memorial gathering of friends and family will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM with his funeral service to follow. .
