Robert E. Schmidt

Robert Edward Schmidt, age 73, passed away into the arms of his Savoir on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, due to a heart condition.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa, WI. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Robert was born on September 21, 1950, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to Robert and Mildred Schmidt (Fahl).
He graduated from Nekoosa High School in 1970, where he was on the track team as a high jumper and was a member of the high school band where he played the trumpet. He attended college at UW Superior where he was a member of the ROTC. He further attended college at UW Stevens Point, and UW Oshkosh, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. He went on to attend Fuller Theological Seminary in Altadena, California.
Robert worked at a half-way house caring for disabled persons, he worked in retail for many years, and he developed carpentry skills which he used working at various jobs.
Robert was a gentle, kind, and generous man. He had a quirky sense of humor and was an avid writer. He wrote beautiful poetry, and inventive short stories. He loved science fiction, he loved the Packers, he loved animals, he loved hiking on Rabbit Rock with his friend, Rick and most of all he loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Even when his life was hard, he would always find some way to give to his nieces and nephews, with hand-made gifts or letters and cards.
He will be missed very much by his family and friends.
Robert is survived by his sister, Sharon Statz of Adams, WI, brother, David (Linda) Schmidt of Nekoosa, WI; sister, Nancy (Mark) Caruso of Spotsylvania, VA, and sister, Ann (Barry) Trzinski of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; 14 nephews and nieces (Todd Statz, Tammie Alekna, Dave Schmidt, Chad Schmidt, Jeremy Schmidt, Heather Sairs, Tony Schmidt, Sam Schmidt, Eva North, Gabrielle Wicks, Jessica Price, Tony Caruso, Amanda Caruso, and Hayley Trzinski); 37 grand nephews and nieces, and four great grand nephews and nieces.
He is further survived by his aunt, Margaret Dunn and his uncle, Alvin Bogdansky, as well as many cousins.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mildred Schmidt.
