Robert Schmitt Obituary
Robert L. Schmitt, 95, died Monday, January 27, 2025 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul.
Services will be at 10 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Derek Apfel officiating. Burial will be in Trenton Cemetery, Trenton, NE., at 3:00 pm. Visitation hours will be on Friday, January 31st from 3 to 5 pm at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
Bob was born on May 7, 1929 in Culbertson, Nebraska to Fredrick and Maybelle (Houchin) Schmitt. He grew up and received his education in Trenton, graduating from Trenton High School with the class of 1947.
He was united in marriage to Lois M. Makings, May 8, 1948 in Trenton, Nebraska. The couple resided in Sidney, Nebraska, Wauneta, Nebraska, Columbus, Nebraska and Seibert, CO, before moving to Grand Island.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Larry R. & Jolene Schmitt of Grand Island; four daughters, Kathryn & Ken Viken of Burlington, CO, Karen K. & Gene Iverson of Boise, ID, Betty A. (Jane) Gumm of Boise, ID, Brenda & Dave Wiesen of Alachua, FL; 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife.
