Robert J. Schrader

Robert James Schrader, age 97, went home to be with the Lord on December 12, 2025. He was born on October 26, 1928 in Ravenna, OH, to Mary Louise Schuck Schrader and Harry R. Schrader. He graduated in 1946 from Ravenna Township High School, where he excelled in track and field, winning the Portage County mile his senior year as well as earning a letterman for football.

In Bob’s younger days, he enjoyed flying a Piper Cub with his brother, Paul, and hunting and fishing. Throughout his life, he loved his long walks through the neighborhood talking with neighbors and the crew down at Lions Park, going to car shows, and tending to his garden. Bob found some of his greatest joys sitting in the bleachers of Wildcat stadium, cheering on the Mogadore High School football team every single Friday night. He was a great Dad, the best grandpa, and an exceptional human being. His family will miss him dearly.

Bob served his country in the Ohio National Guard from 1947-1950, and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1950-1953. He retired from Goodyear Aerospace with 40 years of service. Bob was a loyal and dedicated member of the Mogadore Lions Club since 1972, serving in multiple leadership positions including Head Lion.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Jean Schrader; sister, Helen; brothers, Paul, Donald, and Herman (Red); and grandson, Cameron. He is survived by his children, Craig Schrader, Scott (Melissa) Schrader, and Stephanie (Wade) Kerzie; sister, Rose Bosko; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held January 3, 2026 from 10am-12pm at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home (547 Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44312), with a service immediately following. Military honors will follow at Mogadore Greenwood Cemetery (3809 Mogadore Rd., Mogadore, OH 44260). In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family suggests memorials be made to Mogadore Lions Club.
