Robert Selvidio Obituary

WESTERLY - Robert F. Selvidio, of Westerly, passed away peacefully at Westerly Hospital on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the age of 72. Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Elena (DeMario) Selvidio.

Bob grew up in Westerly and was a graduate of Westerly High School. He was also a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He worked for many years at Posi-Seal and Harris Graphics, and later retired from Electric Boat in Groton. He faced many challenges throughout his life due to a traumatic brain injury sustained as a youth at the age of 15 after being struck by a car. Despite this, he remained resilient and was best known for his humor and love of music.

A talented and well-known drummer, Bob began playing drums at a young age and went on to perform in many bands throughout Connecticut and Rhode Island. He was often seen playing at Westerly's 'First Night' celebrations and was a devoted fan of Buddy Rich. Bob also had a gift for making people laugh - if you ever encountered him, you were likely to leave smiling, usually with a new joke to share.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Kate) Giroux, and his grandson, Jasper Giroux; his brother, Michael (Lucille) Selvidio; his sister, Marilyn Ware; his former wife, Donna Parsons Selvidio; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph R. Selvidio; his brother-in-law, Richard S. Ware; and his former wife, Cathyann Schmidt.

Special thanks are extended to the entire staff of Apple Rehab Clipper Nursing Home for their compassionate care of Bob over the past several years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1999, Memphis, TN 38101.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 7, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4:30 p.m., at Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street, Westerly, RI.

To Bobby family,
So sorry to learn of the passing of Bobby who I knew for over sixty years. I first met Bobby when he was involved in and accident in front of my home on the Bradford Road. Bobby and several of his friends were at a party at my neighbors home across the street from my home. As they ran across the street Bobby was struck by a vehicle. I rendered first aid until the ambulance arrived which took over a half hour or more . I covered him with blankets. A year or so later I met Bobby and at local coffee shops several times.
He was very witty and could make you laugh with his comical saying. He had and answer for every question. He loved drumming and while we sat at the coffee shop he would use his fingers to tap on the table with a good beat. Bobby will be missed he was easy to talk to and had a way about him that showed he was friendly, and kind.
Bobby was a fighter he never gave up after the injures he received from the accident. Rest in peace Bobby. I am presently at my winter home in Florida and will miss his services.
