Robert Shamlian

Robert "Bob" Shamlian, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on July 15, 1939, in Jersey City, he was the youngest son of the late Arrum and Rose Shamlian. Bob was raised in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, where he cultivated a life marked by kindness, handiness, and love.

Bob's journey through life was one of commitment and joy. He married his soulmate, Grace, and together they embarked on a life filled with love and adventure. After starting their family, Bob and Grace moved to Leonardo and eventually settled in Highlands, creating a warm and welcoming home for their children. In recent years, they retired to Keyport, where they enjoyed the tranquility of their golden years.

Bob's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of over 52 years, Grace Shamlian, and their devoted children, Stephen Shamlian, and Carolyn and her husband, Peter Adragna. His three grandsons, Tyler, Jacob, and Conner McTernan,along with their father Mark McTernan, will forever cherish the memories and lessons imparted by their grandfather. Bob was predeceased by his son Michael in 2021 and his brothers, Andrew and Herbert, who he now joins in eternal rest.

A proud member of the Heavy and General Laborers' Union Local 472, Bob dedicated over 50 years of service, demonstrating an unparalleled work ethic and commitment to his craft. His colleagues knew him as a man who could always be relied upon, both on and off the job site.

Bob's interests were as rich and varied as his life. An avid fisherman and crabber, he found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of nature. He and Grace were known for their love of dancing, often the last to leave the dance floor. Together, they explored the world on several cruises, creating a tapestry of memories that will be treasured by all who knew them.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Bob would describe him as the epitome of kindness, always ready to lend a hand or share a loving word. His handy skills were matched only by his generous spirit, and his loving nature made him a beacon of light in the lives of his family and friends.

Please join Bob's family at a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated 11 am Tuesday, January 20th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, rt 36, Highlands. His entombment and committal services will follow at Green Grove Cemetery in Keyport.
