Robert L. Shaw

Robert L. "Bob" Shaw, 97 of Paris, TN formerly of Medina, Ohio passed away at home Tuesday July 4, 2023. He was born on October 13, 1925 in Lima, Ohio to Golda (Curtis) Shaw and William H. Shaw.
Growing up on a farm in rural Lima, Ohio, instilled in Bob the ethics that propelled him through a long life of being humble and doing what's right. Bob graduated from Lodi High School in Lodi, Ohio and served in the Navy during WW II and the Korean Conflict. He took a step further to become part of the first Underwater Demolition Team (UDT1) that later became known as the Navy Seals. Rarely speaking of that tumultuous time in history, his swimming skills prevailed throughout his life and well into his 90's.
Bob graduated from Indiana Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering which lead him to a long career in the research and development of Aircraft brake linings. He became the President of Friction Products in Medina, Ohio while also being a member of many organizations, including Rotary Club, Medina Chamber of Commerce, United Way Industrial Council and Medina United Methodist Church.
Bob married his high school sweetheart, Helen (Jenny) in 1946. They celebrated over 50 years of marriage before Helen passed away in 2003. Bob later reconnected with his elementary school sweetheart, Betty Fernbach of Tallmadge, Ohio. They married in 2005 and celebrated 15 years together before she passed away in 2020.
Bob was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister JoAnn (Shaw) Jenny. He is survived by his children Kimberly (Pat) Starzec and Kevin (Mary Ann) Shaw; his grandchildren Jennifer (Tim) Watson, Kristen (Chloe) King and Jordan Hess; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Bob was truly one of "The Greatest Generation" and his Faith in God and the impact he made on the lives of all he touched will forever be cherished.
A Celebration of Bob's Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina, OH 44256. A light reception will immediately follow at the funeral home. Bob will be laid to rest with military honors at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi by his family.
