Robert “Bob” E. Shealy, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Bob was a graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School, Class of 1970, and a 1974 graduate of Wofford College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 3rd Armored Cavalry for four years. Following his military service, Bob pursued a lifelong passion for aviation. He began his aviation career as a flight instructor before working as a charter and corporate pilot. In 1986, he was hired by Piedmont Airlines, which later merged with US Airways and eventually became part of American Airlines. Bob retired in 2016 after a distinguished career as a Captain with American Airlines. An avid outdoorsman, Bob was known for his deep and abiding love for his family and friends. He will be remembered for his devotion, quiet strength, and the meaningful relationships he built throughout his life.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Gwendolyn “Gwen” Corley Shealy; his two sons, Robert E. Shealy, Jr. and Travis Shealy (Special); his brother, Jeffrey Shealy (Jan); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald E. Shealy and Ann Shealy.

A private burial will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026. A public memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on the same day at St. Paul United Methodist Church, located at 102 East Butler Avenue, Saluda, South Carolina. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the aviation community and family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the nonprofit ministries of St. Paul United Methodist Church, 102 East Butler Avenue, Saluda, SC 29138, or to OnPoint EMS Network, 361 Felix Path, Saluda, SC 29138.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr. Bill Sawyer, Sherry, and their staff, as well as to Belinda Rushton with Lutheran Hospice, for the compassionate care given to Bob.
