Robert (Bob) Eugene Sheely, 88, of Charles Town, WV passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023 at Reston Hospital Center, Reston, VA.
Bob was born in Martinsburg, WV on May 4, 1935, the son of James Allen and Emily Belle (Koontz) Sheely.
Bob was a 1953 graduate of Saint Joseph's High School.
In 1954, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Boblingen, Germany. After military service, Bob began work at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center and two years later, began his civilian career in the communications field. This lead Bob to work with various Federal agencies; the U.S. Army Interagency Communications Agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Defense, and the White House Communications Office. At the time of his retirement after 38 years of Federal Service, Bob was the Director of the Newman Center Conference and Training Facility with the Department of Defense.
Bob was married to Beverly Ann Hockenberry of Martinsburg, WV and together they had five children, Michael Eugene Sheely, Robert Craig Sheely (Tina), of Hetzles, Germany, Caroline Sheely Griffith (Don), of Falling Waters, WV, Keith Wayne Sheely (Jennifer) of Missouri and Cynthia Ann Sheely.
Bob married Susan K. Rissler, of Charles Town, WV in 1975 and then resided in Herndon, VA until Susan's retirement in 2003. They returned to the Kabletown area of Jefferson County, WV., where they resided together for many years.
Bob enjoyed Golfing and spending time at the Charles Town Race Track with his longtime friend Stanley Demich.
Bob volunteered at the Martinsburg Knights of Columbus Bingo almost every Wednesday and volunteered at Saint James Catholic Church in Charles Town.
Bob is survived by his three children, Robert, Caroline and Keith; five grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Rissler, of Charles Town, WV; two special friends, Beverly Johnson and Mike DelColle and many others from his church family
Bob was preceded in death by his Parents, his Wife, Susan Rissler Sheely, his Brother, James T. Sheely, a Son, Michael E. Sheely, a Daughter, Cynthia A. Sheely, a Sister-in-Law, Jane P. Rissler and Brother-in-Law, James A. Rogers.
A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023 with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m. at the Saint James the Greater Catholic Church, 49 Crosswinds Drive, Charles Town, WV., with Father Timothy Grassi officiating assisted by Deacon Dave Galvin with Burial taking place at Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Kearneysville, WV.
There will be no visitation.
