Rita Marie (Colna) Bound, 78, of Harper's Ferry, WV, passed peacefully at home in the early hours of Sat. Sept. 13, 2025.
She was the devoted & loving wife of 51 years, 8 months, 24 days to Joseph C. Bound, whom passed on Jan. 25, 2022. There were no 2 that loved each other as much, as hard, put up with & fought, laughed and enjoyed life together as a whole. They were the full embodiment of the vow: "For better, or for worse, in sickness, & in health..."
We are sure the homecoming to Our Father's arms was met with a huge positive extravaganza of those who preceded her in their New Life, with the heading, "WELCOME HOME"...
Her mother, Anna (Hnatishion) Colna, father, Joseph William Colna, her eldest brother, Theordore Colna, her mother & father-in-law, Eleanor & Joseph Bound, Sr., brother-in-law, Vincent Bound, and sister-in-law, Carol-Ann Bound.
She is survived by her children, Christa M. Engel, (husband, Michael), David J. Bound, (wife, Julie-Rene), grand-children; Julian Bound, and Jaden Bound, Kaziah M. White, grand children; Melody (Engel) Suhrie, (husband, Andrew) Jake Engel, Great-grand child, Ryder Mason Suhrie.
She is also survived by her siblings; brother, Joseph Colna, (wife, Dot), sister, Peggy Fidler, (husband, Bob), and youngest brother, Mike Colna, (wife, Trish), brother-in-law William "Bill" Bound, (wife, Karen), and sister-in-law Laure Bound
Most of Jefferson County, WV knew Rita for her 28 years of supporting Jules. F. Langlet, MD as his front medical office manager, prior to his retirement. She then went to work for Dr. Gagan Singh, MD, prior to her retirement.
She taught with Mr. Ily Bratina at Shepherd College, (now Shepherd University), teaching the Seniors of Jefferson County isometric exercises, so they would be able to stay out of nursing homes.
She was an alto vocalist in Masterworks Chorale at Shepherd College, conducted by Professor Jay Stenger, singing in English, Latin, and German at the area churches.
She was also a vocalist in the St. Agnes Choir in Shepherdstown under the direction of Thomas Dwyer.
Rita was also a Thespian at the Old Opera House in Charles Town, WV, performing in such plays as "Music Man", "Guys & Dolls", South Pacific", and "Dark of the Moon".
She enjoyed being an avid tennis player on the Jefferson County Women's Tennis League for many years.
For 7 years, she taught 3rd grade C.C.D. classes at St. James Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV.
Rita was also an Extra Ordinary Minister of Eucharist for St. James Catholic Church; taking the Holy Eucharist to homes of people unable to attend Mass.
She was a member for many years of the Mountain Lake Club, (formerly, Shannondale Club, Ltd.), where she and Joe enjoyed many holiday events, watching football games in the Lake Lounge, and dances in the incredible grand ballroom.
Rita was a vivid and full of life individual who loved her husband, her family, her birds, her animals, her gardens, and especially her church, Lord, and Savior, Jesus Christ.
It was His hand she happily took to walk into her New Life to be with her family, to start anew, with endless perfect love, harmony, and serenity.
We love you, Mom.
See you when we get there.
"WELCOME HOME."
