Robert Shuttlesworth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. on Sep. 16, 2025.
Robert F. Shuttlesworth, 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in The Highlands at Wyomissing, surrounded by loving family. Born in Ashland, PA, he was a son of the late William C. and Anna (Buchanan) Shuttlesworth. He has been reunited with his adoring wife of 67 years, Edna M. (Ziegenfuse) Shuttlesworth, who passed May 14, 2023.

Bob served our nation proudly in Special Services with the U.S. Army. He was also highly educated, graduating from Ashland High School, receiving a bachelor's degree from Bloomsburg State College, master's degrees from Temple University and Millersville State College, where he was also on the Varsity Basketball team, and completing doctoral studies at Lehigh University.

Bob worked for over 35 years for the Governor Mifflin School District as a teacher, guidance counselor, assistant principal, director of guidance, director of pupil services, school psychologist and administrative assistant to the Superintendent. During this time, he also worked at Penn State-Berks Campus as a psychology instructor and evening school administrator, and for Alvernia College as a psychology instructor. In retirement, Bob worked in the Berks County Courthouse as a Deputy Clerk and Tipstaff.

Even with all of these incredible responsibilities, Bob believed in giving back to his community, serving not only as a faithful member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, Shillington, but as a church elder and president of the consistory for many years. He also gave his precious time on the Board of Directors of the Berks Youth Counseling Center, for the Blue Spruce Scholarship Foundation, and on the Shillington Water Authority, and Borough Planning & Zoning Commission.

Bob is survived by his children: daughters Barbara L. Stallone, wife of Albert A. Stallone, Jr., and Susan K. Cobb, wife of Richard M. Cobb, and his son Dr. Robert J. Shuttlesworth, husband of Patti G. Stokes; 10 grandchildren: Albert Stallone III, Samantha L. Muir (Chad), Carly H. Coquoz (Christian), William C. Shuttlesworth, Erin B. Bylos (Cosmon), Lane S. Creatore (Matt), Regan M. Khan (Nadeem), and Richard E., Leigh M. and Aden S. Cobb. Also surviving are four great grandchildren: Adalyn, Ryland and Bexton Muir, and Archer Coquoz.

In addition to his parents and loving wife Edna, Bob was predeceased by five siblings: Harriet M. Kaufman, Dr. William C. Shuttlesworth, Jack E. Shuttlesworth, James R. Shuttlesworth and Thomas F. Evans.

The life of our Dad was largely and very happily defined by his complete and utter devotion to our beautiful mother. As high school sweethearts and over their nearly 70 years together they became absolutely inseparable. Their relationship was a love affair that served as an inspiration, gift, and blessing to all who were privileged to witness it.

Dad was loving, funny and an accomplished practical joker. These parts of his personality were displayed in abundance to his many friends and to his deeply loved and adored children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as well. Countless hours were also spent by us all joining Dad in some of his many passions.... sports, jazz, old movies, crossword puzzles, and cooking shows.

Dad's full and beautiful life was indeed a life well-lived. In this time of grief our sadness is tempered by the happiness in our hearts knowing that Mom and Dad are finally together again. Our family wishes to expressly thank the amazing staff at The Highlands. The love and compassion from them all as they cared for our parents over the years was a cherished gift to Mom and Dad as well as to all of us.

Services will be private at the convenience of his family. Klee Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Shillington, is honored to be assisting the Shuttlesworth family. www.kleefuneralhome.com
