Robert Slater Obituary

ROBERT EDWARD SLATER

April 15, 1947 – January 3, 2026

Robert Edward (Bob) Slater passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 78. A life-long Bakersfield resident, he attended local schools and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology at Fresno State. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 to 1972 and was an RD2 on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier at the time of his honorable discharge.

Bob is survived by his wife Trudy, brother Dennis Slater, sister Susan Slater Pudiwitr, sons Mark Slater (Christie) and Greg Slater (Yvonne), stepson Christopher Thornton (Alera), grandchildren Mark, Karissa, Courtney, Jakob, Tristan, Justin, Zachary, and Zoe, and great-grandchildren Kinsley, Jaxon, Emery, Kennedee, and Kamdynn.

Over the years, Bob served in the Bakersfield Police Department, became a small business owner, and eventually retired from Kern County as a Probation Department Supervisor.

An active Mason, Shriner, and Eastern Star member, he also belonged to several other local service organizations.

Bob's Celebration of Life will be held at the Bakersfield Masonic Temple, 1920 18th Street in Bakersfield at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026. A military interment follows at 2:00 p.m. at the Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 East Bear Mountain Boulevard in Arvin.
