Robert Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Inc. - Springfield on Jun. 2, 2022.
Robert Kingston Smith, 61, of Willard, Missouri passed away May 21, 2022, from complications following surgery.
King was born June 1, 1960, to Robert Neil and Maizie Smith in Springfield, Missouri. He developed a love of sports playing Kiwanis baseball as a boy and then basketball, track, and football for Parkview High School. He also played basketball and softball in church and open leagues for many years. It is here that he met his wife Glenda of nearly 40 years. After living in Springfield for several years, they built their home in Willard, Missouri on some acreage just outside of town and settled in with a family composed of Miniature Schnauzers.
King loved Ford Mustangs, Duke men's basketball, Patriots and Chiefs football, Cardinal baseball, and Islanders hockey. After being converted from Mickey Mouse, he and his wife together spent a lifetime of collecting Snoopy and Woodstock items to the point of obsession.
King was a lifetime member of First and Calvary Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Stephen Minister, Liturgist, Lay Minister and occasional Sunday school teacher. He gave many hours caring for others, often in their darkest hours, hoping he could provide comfort, understanding, a moment of peace. He fiercely loved his family and would have, and often did, anything for them. He was a gentle, loving soul with a huge heart. He is preceded in death by Grandparents Philo and Ida Mae Smith, Dallas and Lillian Williams, Parents Neil and Maizie Smith, many Aunts and Uncles and Cousin Marvin Lowe.
He is survived by his wife Glenda, sister Cindi Tedesco and husband Mark, several California cousins, Jerry and Connie Scott, Jeff, Cora and Sophia Scott, Cindy Scott, James Pope, Mae Stewart and a large extended family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 3, with the Reverend David Scott officiating under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. No visitation is scheduled. Come dressed casual and comfortable, as King wanted a party. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southwest Missouri Humane Society or the shelter/rescue of your choice. https://sgfcitizen.org/lives-remembered/king-smith-robert-kingston-smith/
