Edward Heiss Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, Inc. - Springfield on Jan. 2, 2026.
Edward L. Heiss, age 82 of Springfield, MO passed away on January 1, 2026 at Cedarhurst Memory Care in Springfield.

He was born in St. Louis on April 25, 1943, the son of Edward and Lillian Heiss. In 1945, the family moved to Springfield where Ed attended public schools. He graduated from Parkview High School and later graduated from Drury College.

In 1967 , he joined the United States Air Force and, following officer training, served as a logistics officer at an Air Force Base in Columbus, Ohio.

During the course of his life, he was employed in the insurance industry and was in management at the Kroger Company. Eventually, Ed settled in Cincinnati and resided there for fifty years. He enjoyed a fulfilling life, surrounded by friends and neighbors. Ed had a great interest in photography, but his greatest passion, however, was pursuing his railroad hobby. He took many pictures of trains and was very active in the Cincinnati Railroad Club. Additionally, he was quite the audiophile, with a vast collection of LP recordings.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lillian.

He is survived by his brother Bill of Springfield, four nieces and nephews; Kerry, Kelly, Kasey and Kris, as well as fourteen grand-nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by a very special person, Susie Heiss.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 6:00 PM in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Ed will be interred at a later date at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
