Robert Smith Obituary

Born in Stark County on December 30, 1929, he was the son of the late William and Florence (Geaut) Smith. He married the former Alice Miller in 1995. She survives.
Robert was a proud train Conductor and Brakeman with the former Norfolk & Western Railroad in Brewster, retiring at 62 years old. He enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Center, roller skating, was a member of the New Towne Cloggers, and greatly appreciated his time on the farm and being outdoors.
In addition to his wife Alice, he is survived by his children Cheryl (Donald) Weaver of Sugarcreek, David Lee (Nancy) Smith of Dover, Diane Lynn Smith of Massillon, and John (Ronda) Smith of Dundee; and several grand and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Geneva (Miller) Smith.
Services for Robert will be held at Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ray Garvin officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery at Crossroads in Stark County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 5 - 7 p.m.

I met both Bob and Alice in 2016. Both were and are always gracious. Bob taught me a lot of bridge, and made the game fun. I'll miss this cantankerous old guy. My thoughts and prayers are for Bob and the entire family.
