Robert “Bob” Edwin Smith, 90, of Quincy, passed away peacefully at 6:29 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio following complications from pneumonia. He was born on June 18, 1934, on the family farm west of Bloom Center, to the late Herman E. and Ruth (McCoy) Smith.
On December 17, 1965, Bob married, his wife of 58 years, Ruth Ann (Dubbs) Smith in West Liberty, Ohio and she survives, along with their two daughters, Cathy Smith of Quincy, and Jill Smith of Jackson Center; a sister-in-law, Peggy Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by an infant daughter; and his siblings and their spouses, Franklin (Pat) Smith, Nevin Smith, John (Carol) Smith, Joe (Naomi) Smith, Sarah (Bob) Miller, and Gary (Barbara) Kinninger.
Bob was a 1952 graduate of Washington Local Schools and a proud graduate of The Ohio State University. He was active in college with the judging team and, after graduation, judged many livestock shows around Ohio. He was the shepherd at The Ohio State University sheep barns for 10 years after graduation, then moved home to the farm in Bloom Center, where he raised livestock and crops until this past year.
Bob loved John Deere tractors and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was active in the Logan and Shelby County Tractor Clubs, a Farm Bureau member and past board member of the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association, the Logan County Sheep Committee, and the Logan County Cattle Association.
Bob’s family would like to thank the staff of Logan Acres for the wonderful care he received the past month.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, and from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, July 11th at the Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 210 W. Hayes Street in DeGraff. Pastor Bill Halter will officiate a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Rea Cemetery in Bloomfield Township.
Memorial contributions may be made, in Bob’s memory, to Logan Acres Care Center, 2739 County Road 91, Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
