Robert "Rob" I. Smith, 61, of Dixon, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 14, 2024, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, in Rockford, IL. He worked as a truck driver for Gemini Motor Transport out of OK.
Rob was born on March 31, 1963, in Dixon, the son of Robert Phillip and Maribelle (Harms) Smith. He married his beloved wife, Sonok Kim, in 2006. Rob was a compassionate, friendly, and loving person. Known to have never met a stranger, Rob loved to make others laugh & smile with his big personality and jokester ways. He loved camping, golfing and his beloved Chicago White Sox. Rob was also a wonderful cook (who also happened to make a mess while doing it). To know Rob was to know somebody who loved life and others...especially his cherished family, grandkids, and dogs.
Rob is survived by his wife, Sonok Smith; daughters, Heather Near, Kimberly (Brent) Williamson, Rachel (James) Lawson; three siblings, Ronald Paul (Susie) Smith, Sharon Lynn (Rick) Tucker, Terry Lee (Kim) Smith; one brother-in-law, Marvin Blixt; five grandchildren, Brendan Manick, Kahlan Manick, Zachary Near, Odin Williamson, Ava Williamson, and one more grandchild on the way; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Rosa Linda Hart, Donald George (Charna) Smith, Mary Ann (Bradley) Wohrley; and one sister-in-law, Mary Smith.
A Celebration of Rob's Life will take place from 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at the Dixon Elks Lodge #779 in Dixon.
As an organ donor, Rob was able to help others in need by donating his kidneys...in this way his memory & legacy will continue on. Cremation Rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be directed to Granny Rose Animal Shelter in Dixon.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.
