Retired 1SG Robert "Bob" Andrew Smith, 72 of Hope Mills, NC, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024.
Born on July 25, 1952, in Schenectady, NY, Bob was the son of the late Joseph Andrew Smith and Norma Marie Gish Smith. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Tara Thomas and his stepdaughter, Rebecca Graves.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Gilmore Smith; his son, Robert Smith II (Betty) of Marion, NC; his daughter, Angela Sajko (Mike) of Rockingham, NC; his stepsons, Christopher Graves and Darren Graves of Swannanoa, NC; multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Bob honorably served his country for 26 years with the United States Army before retiring in 1994. He was a Vietnam veteran who, during his military career, was the recipient of numerous ribbons and medals.
Bob was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
