Robert Louis Smith

Born July 4, 1937 – Adel, Georgia

Departed August 20, 2025 - Clearwater, Florida

Robert Louis Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully at his home in the Lexington Club in Clearwater, Florida, on August 20, 2025, at the age of 88, with his wife Kathy present at his side until his last breath. Born in Adel, Georgia on Independence Day, 1937, Robert was the son of Moses Smith and Ethyl Pills.

A graduate of Washington High School, where the Wildcats shaped his love of football, Robert carried both discipline and joy into every stage of life. He later worked at Florida Steel, where he dedicated many years before his retirement.

Robert's spiritual foundation was planted at Graham Chapel in Quitman, Georgia. After moving to Clearwater, Florida, he became a devoted member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully as President of the Choir and sang tenor alongside his wife, Kathy, who directed the choir and played the piano.

He cherished his family deeply-his wife Kathy Smith; daughter Elaine Alston; grandson Brandon Alston; and bonus children and grandchildren who came into his life through love. He was predeceased by his daughter Connie Smith, whose memory remained close to his heart. Robert delighted in welcoming great-grandchildren into his life and treasured every moment spent with family.

Known for his fitness and consistency, Robert ran miles each day, believing in tending to life's duties with diligence and care. He loved football, classic westerns such as Gunsmoke, and the television drama In the Heat of the Night. For two decades, he found community at Neighborly in Clearwater, where he forged lasting friendships.

Robert was easygoing yet principled, with a kind heart and a steady humor. He loved a good meal, family gatherings, and simple treats like Baby Ruths, PayDays, Snickers, and butter pecan ice cream. He always led grace before meals, grounding his family in gratitude.

He is remembered as a man of strong values who taught the importance of presence, consistency, and keeping one's word. Robert's memory will live on in the laughter, lessons, and love he shared.

A private family service will be held at Parklawn Memorial in Dunedin, Florida, formerly known as Eternal Rest, on September 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.
