Funeral services for Robert Jerome “Jerry” Smith, Sr. will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022. Burial will be held at Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent in Shreveport, Louisiana. Officiating the service will be reverend Morris Lewis.
Jerry was born on June 13, 1947 and passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 29, 2022 surrounded by his family.
Jerry was a man of faith and the best father and grandpa. He truly cared for his family. His sons describe him as the dad that was always there for them and that no matter what they needed or often wanted, he always found a way. He had a kind heart and was generous.
He graduated from Fair Park High School in 1965 and attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana earning a degree in Mathematics in 1969. Jerry began his military career in the United States Army shortly thereafter. He left that career to follow a call to the ministry earning his Master of Divinity in 1980 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. His love for the Lord and the deep study of The Word of God was a lifelong pursuit. He later moved to Houston, Texas where he raised his boys and retired from Wells Fargo as a Business System Analyst.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Enoch C. and Connie Burt and Arthur and Mary Fore Smith; father, Winfred Buie Smith; mother, Ophelia Burt Stephens; stepfather, William R. Stephens, and brother, Kenneth Milton Smith.
He is survived by his sons, Robert Jerome Smith, Jr. and Michael Andrew Smith & wife Erica Alcaide Smith; grandchildren, Bek Smith, William Smith, Mariah Smith, and Giuliana Smith; brother, Darryl L. Stephens and wife, Terri Deblieux Stephens; sister, Sheila Stephens Burkhall and husband, Mark W. Burkhall; nieces and nephews, Vickie Smith Rosalie, Julie Smith, Jonathan Hewitt, Ericka Fornea and husband, Adam, Jameson Hewitt, Sarah Reynolds and husband, Mitch, Anna Sanford and husband, Wayne, and Allison Stephens; great-nieces and nephews, Shannon Becker, Colton Becker, Lauren Dove and husband, Tad, Zachary Hooter, Lucy Fornea, Valerie Fornea, McCullough Hewitt, Scarlett Hewitt, Cypress Reynolds, Corbin Reynolds, Kaiden Durfee, and Wyatt Dove.
