A W Cooper, Jr., a native of New Orleans, Louisiana and a resident of Greenwell Springs, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the age of 81. He was a 1962 graduate of Istrouma High School. He went to Northwestern State University, where he was eventually drafted into the Unites States Army. He would go back late in life to finish his bachelor’s degree in social work from Southeastern.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A W Cooper, Sr., Ruth Iola Floyd and William Floyd; his brother, Marvin Cooper; and his son, Devin Lambert.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, who was his best confidant and dance partner, Toni Cooper; children, Alicia Cooper, A W “Ram” Cooper, III (Rebecca), and Clay Cooper (Kathryn); grandchildren, Chase Lambert (Mindy), Hudson Cooper, Landon Fiffik (Gabby), Harrison Cooper, Regan Fiffik, Chelsea Lambert (Jenson), and Chaffy Lambert; great-grandchildren, Carter Lambert and Reece Lambert; brother, Rena Floyd (Stacey); sister, Sherri Wilson; sister-in-law, Brenda Cooper; and numerous other family members.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge, on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until Funeral Service are held at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
