Margaret Ann Mayes (Johnson) 5/11/48-2/15/26

"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.'" John 11;25-26.

Margaret, age 77, peacefully went to be with Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, on February 15 2026. Margaret was born May 11, 1948 in Baton Rouge, LA. She was a dedicated bus driver for many years for the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board and drove for multiple schools throughout her tenure before her retirement. Known for her colorful personality, she never met a stranger and loved to make people laugh. Margaret was oftentimes extremely generous and kind and will be remembered for her strength, fierce resilience, and empathetic big heart.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Willie L. Johnson and Vera Lemoine Johnson; brother William (Scooter) Johnson; and grandparents Oscar and Eunice Lemoine and Louis and Adele Johnson (Long Beach, MS).

She is survived by her children Lisa Mayes Jones, Linda Mayes Johnson & Henry Mayes Jr. (Ted Miller), and former husband Henry Mayes Sr.; 6 grandchildren, Amy Mayes Stowe (Stevie), Ashley Jones, David Jones, Aubrey Johnson, Heath Johnson and Hannah Johnson. 6 great grandchildren Gracie Stowe, Carlo Rome, Ava Stowe, Isabelle "Izzy" Stowe, and Tremayne "TJ" Johnson; siblings, Dianne Johnson Turner (Roy), Arthur Johnson, and Brenda Johnson Darr (Larry ); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Visitation from the Chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, 12012 Hwy 190 West Hammond, LA. on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m.
