Robert Somers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home on Dec. 13, 2025.
Robert A. Somers born September 15, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois passed away November 20, 2025 in Northbrook, Illinois. He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Jeanne Somers, nee Fasulo, loving father of Suzanne (Somers) Ryan (Mark) and Bradley Somers. Cherished grandfather of Thomas and Jack Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Florence Somers.
A graduate of the University of Illinois School of Business, Bob was proud to earn his CPA certificate and launch his business career rooted in integrity and dedicated service in public accounting. Bob went on to join City Products as an audit manager before finding his long-term professional home at Clausen Miller Law Firm in downtown Chicago, where he served as administrator and controller for more than 30 years. For over 42 years, he also maintained his own income tax practice, a source of both pride and loyal clients. Bob cherished his Metra rides into the Loop, taking joy in the energy and bustle of the city he loved.
Bob was completely devoted to his family, and the true focal point of his life was being a proud and constant supporter of his two children and grandsons in all their activities. His passion for the outdoors earned him the beloved nickname "Grandpa Fisherman". Bob cherished his Northbrook home on Citation Lake and treasured his time in northern Wisconsin fishing, as well as his trips to the mountains of Colorado.
Bob courageously battled Parkinson's and throughout his journey, he maintained a remarkable positive attitude, meeting each challenge with grace and dignity. He will be deeply missed, and his legacy will live through his family and in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on January 10, 2026 from 9:15 am until the time of Mass at 10 am at St. Norbert & Our Lady of the Brook Parish located at 1809 Walters Ave., Northbrook, Illinois. Live Stream Link. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Misericordia or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
