Robert "Bob" Patrick Sorensen
August 7, 1946 - December 16, 2025
Robert "Bob" P. Sorensen, 79, of Cape Elizabeth, passed away on December 16, 2025, at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough with his wife, Maria by his side.
Bob was born in
Chicago, Illinois, raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and graduated from Woodlawn High School. After graduating, he attended the University of Maryland for a year then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Iceland. He was also stationed at the Boston Naval Shipyard where he asked a friend to see if his girlfriend could help him meet someone. His blind date with Maria Archambault was love at first sight. Bob dated Maria until he was assigned to a construction battalion in Vietnam. After serving his country and honorably discharged in 1970, Bob enrolled in Northeastern University in Boston. On August 15, he married Maria and together they raised two of their sons in Malden, Massachusetts, while attending college and working full-time.
Bob graduated in 1977, Summa Cum Laude with an engineering degree from Northeastern, he then moved his family to Lincoln, Maine, where he worked as a Mechanical Engineer. Bob enjoyed many fishing trips and even tried hunting, which he did not enjoy. In 1981, he moved his family with now three sons to work at Erving Paper Mill, in Massachusetts.
Bob and his family enjoyed camping, first tenting, then graduating to a pop-up camper, with trips to Cape Cod and then Maine. Bob loved cooking outdoors and just sitting by the campfire. He and his family enjoyed their camping trips to Maine so much that when Bob had a job offer to work as a Consulting Engineer at Simons Engineering, then located in Westbrook, the family moved again. They found a home in Cape Elizabeth, where they raised their three sons.
Bob loved to cook and especially liked his outdoor grills; he made wonderful Italian sausage, pasta sauces, and Paella. He enjoyed entertaining and always went out of his way to put his best effort for friends and family. Bob was a wonderfully imperfect man, a true gentleman who went out of his way to help others, no matter where he was. He was able to do household repairs and even made toy boxes for his boys.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Arthur W. and Nayoma Yeager Sorensen. Bob's family was everything to him and he leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Maria and sons, Jared (and Deanna Spence), Adam, Micah and granddaughter Jade. Also, his dear sisters, Linda Scott of Atlanta Georgia and Janet Bove of Southport, North Carolina, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Maine Medical Center, The Veterans Home, and Southern Maine Hospice.
