Robert "Bob" Speich, 93 of Algona, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at his home in Algona. Funeral services for Bob will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Lutheran Church in Algona. Interment will take place at East Lawn Cemetery in Algona, with military rites conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard, the Howard D. Omdahl VFW Post #2541 and the Hagg-Turner American Legion Post #90. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Lentz Funeral Home in Algona. Services will be live streamed via Lentz Funeral Home's website https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/robert-james-speich
Robert James Speich, the son of Antone and Ellen (Johnson) Speich, was born on June 21, 1932, in Renwick, Iowa. He attended school in Renwick and later graduated from Ottosen High School in 1951. He was drafted into the United States Army shortly after graduation, Robert fortunately never had to see combat during the Korean War. On May 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Karen Kay Imhoff in Ottosen, Iowa. During Bob's working career, he was employed at Miller Lumber as a sales and delivery man. He also had a "tinker" farm where he milked cows by hand and raised cattle.
Bob was a member of First Lutheran Church in Algona, the Hagg Turner American Legion Post #90 of Algona and the Golden K Kiwanis until their dissolvent. Bob was a loyal and dedicated grounds keeper for First Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed working and attending dirt track races at the Kossuth County Speedway, maintaining a large vegetable garden, wood carving and his many white German Sheppard's he had through the years.
Left to cherish Bob's memory are his children: Kevin Speich of Algona and LeAnn (Harlan Tulp) Boyken of Belmond; grandson: Anthony Speich of Algona; sisters-in-law, Della Speich of Hampton and Pat Hovinga of Laurens; a brother-in-law, Gary Imhoff of Lohrville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Antone and Ellen Speich; wife: Karen Speich; son and daughter-in-law: Daryl and Leah Speich; three sisters, Verona (Paul) Berninghaus, Ruth Speich and Evelyn (Gene) Walston; three brothers, Edwin, Norman and Arland (Marva) Speich; in-laws, Richard (Peggy) Groff, Robert (Linda) Bethune, Nancy (Boyd) Imhoff, Betty Imhoff and Dennis Hovinga; and a nephew Charles Walston.
