Robert L. "Bob" Stevanus, age 85, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Topeka, Kansas.
Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, Kansas.
Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Ottawa.
The family will meet with friends from 5:30-7:30pm., Friday, July 12, 2024, at the funeral home.
Bob was born on Wednesday, March 29, 1939 in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of C. Robert and Georgia A. (Strole) Stevanus.
He lived in Pleasanton, Kansas from 1943 until moving to Ottawa in 1967.
Bob graduated from Pleasanton High School in Pleasanton, Kansas with the class of 1957.
He served in the Kansas Army National Guard from September 17, 1956 until retiring in 1995. Bob attained the rank of Master Sergeant and received the Legion of Merit Ribbon in May 1995.
On September 13, 1958 Bob was united in marriage with Judy N. Wheelock at Pleasanton, Kansas. She preceded him in death on November 8, 1991. On Saturday, April 3, 1993, he was united in marriage with Lola M. (Reser) Hutley at Ottawa, Kansas. She survives of their home.
He hauled raw milk to Borden's Dairy in Kansas City for seven years; worked at OMS #8 for the Kansas Army National Guard in Ottawa for twenty-eight years, retiring as Shop Chief in April 1995; worked as a mechanic and bus driver for Ottawa Bus Service from 1973 until 1995, and worked as mechanic and bus driver at Crossroads Tours in Olathe, Kansas from April 1995 until February 2005.
He was a member of the Ottawa First United Methodist Church and a board member of Rural Water District #2; served as Harrison Township Treasurer and was a board member of Power of the Past, serving as president for two terms during that time.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, C. Robert and Georgia Stevanus; infant son, William A. Stevanus; and granddaughter Rose Leising.
He is survived by his daughter, Marci Dreher and her husband, John of Rockford, Illinois; son, Gary Stevanus and his wife, Allison of Baldwin City, Kansas; step sons, Don Hutley of Scranton, Kansas, David Hutley and his wife, Patricia of Topeka, Kansas and Gary Hutley and his wife, Darcy Dickson of Topeka, Kansas; sister, Patricia Ledson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren, Mia Dreher, Max Dreher, Jake Stevanus, Emily Stevanus, and Abigail Fitzgerald, and great grandchildren, Oscar Fitzgerald and Adlelaine Fitzgerald.
