Robert Strassberger Obituary

Robert P. Strassberger, age 87, of Lake Worth, Florida, and formerly of Utica, New York, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, February 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 4, 1937, in Utica, New York, Bob was the son of William O. and Helen (Zauner) Strassberger. He was raised in Yorkville, New York, attending Whitesboro Central schools and Mohawk Valley Community College.

On August 22, 1959, Bob married Janet Sperry and enjoyed thirty-two wonderful years with his beloved wife until her passing in 1991.

Bob was employed for more than thirty-five years at General Electric as a draftsman and later as a CAD engineer.

In his earlier years, Bob's enjoyment for flying led him to obtain his private pilot's license, even piloting to Bar Harbor, Maine with Janet. He was prior Assistant Chief for the Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department, received his EMT certification and also taught CPR and First Aid.

On June 13, 1995, Bob married Marie Deitz and shared thirty blessed years of marriage.

While living part of the year in Lake Worth, Florida, Bob dedicated several years to being Lago Lucerne's townhome community HOA president. He and Marie enjoyed playing tennis and especially loved playing golf with friends.

Bob had an amazing ability to design, create, and fix anything. He was a skilled woodworker, having built his and Marie's summer home on Kayuta Lake, as well as several pieces of furniture over the years.

Bob will be dearly missed. He leaves behind his wife Marie, daughter Cynthia (James) Corrigan, sons Eric (Melissa) Strassberger and Kurt (Donna) Strassberger; grandchildren Kelly (Bryant Inge) Corrigan, Dillon (Nicole) Corrigan, Amanda Cooper, Anthony (Ashley) Davis, Nate Strassberger, and Eliza Strassberger; great-grandchildren Dawson Cooper and Aiden Davis; and sister-in-law Suzanne (Dan) Killian and family. Bob treasured his relationship with his nephew, Bill (Dee) Strassberger.

Because of the blessings of a wonderful, blended family, Bob is also survived by stepdaughters Alison (Pat) Coppola, and Lesley (Dan Kealy) Hayes; step-son-in-law Aldo Legido; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Angelo (Carol Ann) DiRuzza, sister-in-law JoAnn McKelvey, and several nieces and special friends.

Bob was predeceased by his wife Janet, brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Ruth Strassberger, nephew and niece, Paul and Susan Strassberger, and stepdaughter, Jennifer Legido.

Funeral services will be held in the Spring at a date and time to be announced at St. Peter's Church, Utica. Inurnment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).

Bob's family would like to thank Appleton Home Health Services for the exceptional care given to Bob during his recovery.

Arrangements are under the direction of McGrath, Myslinski, Kowalczyk & Nunn Funeral Directors, 470 French Rd., Utica.

Bob was my next door neighbor, my friend and the Godfather of Lago Lucerne Homeowners Association. HOA's have a bad reputation, but people don't always appreciate the dedication some offer with steady and responsible leadership.

Bob's innovative good works strengthened a lasting foundation for the community of Lago Lucerne, a hidden gem in Lake Worth.

He wisely passed his tourch to me because he passionately wanted our HOA to be in safe hands. I will do the same as I share his vision for maintaining the greater good for our collective home.

Bob was truly a renaissance man as manifested a big box full of life time accomplishment.

He came into his life with a long to-do list, and I'd say, he checked off all the boxes. Although, if the good lord had given him more time, he'd still be very busy.

I will never forget Bob Strassberger, a gentle soul, a generous and giving man. Though not everyone here will realize it, he left his mark, and his legacy will sustain us.

Bob was always a doer and never stood by. He was always willing to help and often offered his help or at the very least his tools. You will be dearly missed by this Canadian. Always a true and considerate friend.
