Robert Stroder, 84, of Nederland passed away on Monday, June 9, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Robert was born on September 7, 1940 in Welsh, Louisiana to parents Beulah (Leger) and Magnus Strodderd. He proudly served in the United States Army.
Robert lived most of his life in Southeast Texas. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Lamar University in 1974, which was one of the first group of students to attend Lamar for an Engineering degree. Robert received a certificate for “National Security Management” from Industrial College of Armed Forces in 1977 and Texas College of Probate Judges in 1996.
Robert had a great work ethic. He was Project Engineer for the City of Port Arthur from 1963-1976, County Engineer for Jefferson County from 1976 -1996 and County Judge in Jefferson County in 1996, and then served as General Manager of Lower Neches Valley Authority until he retired in 2009.
Robert was very active in Peace Lutheran Church in Groves where he was an Elder and served on several of the board committees. He had a great faith in God and had both attended and served on several teams for St. Peter’s A.C.T. Retreats. Robert enjoyed going fishing and golfing, and also loved spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Magnus and Beulah Strodderd, his daughter, Marci Domec, his sisters, Janette Strodderd and Wanda Harlow and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ivy and Estelle Kimball.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Jan Stroder of Nederland, his daughters, Angie Bellard and her husband, Chad of Nederland, Christina Frith and her husband Robert of Katy, Amber Miller of Katy and Megan Stroder of Port Neches. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Peace Lutheran Church, 5801 Jefferson Street, Groves, Texas 77619, with a gathering of family and friends from 12:00 PM until service time. Officiating will be Reverand Phillip Phifer, burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
