Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home of New Britain, CT, and the Olney-Foust Funeral Home of Port Allegany, PA.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on January 10 at the Event Center at Covenant Living of Cromwell, 52 Missionary Road, Cromwell, CT.
Interment will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Port Allegany, and a second service will follow at 6:30 PM on January 12 at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Port Allegany, 67 Church Street, Port Allegany, PA, with The Reverend J. T. Madison officiating.
Bob Stromberg was born on August 15, 1928, in Bradford, PA, to Gerda and Eric Stromberg. In 1930, the family moved to a farm in Wrights, PA. He graduated from Port Allegany High School in 1946 and, from 1946 to 1948, served in the Army’s 11th Airborne Division in Japan. Returning home, he married his high school sweetheart, Lucielle Nelson, on May 8, 1948, in Port Allegany. They shared 72 wonderful years together and had three children: Sally, Robert, and Ingrid.
Bob earned a B.S. degree from Lock Haven University, followed by M.Ed. and Ed.D. degrees from Penn State University. He devoted 42 years to the Pennsylvania Public School System, serving as a math and science teacher, high school principal in Port Allegany, Superintendent of McKean County schools, and executive director of the four-county Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit #9.
A man of deep Christian faith, Bob was a longtime member of the Port Allegany Covenant Church, where he served as chairman for many years, and also participated in The Hilltop Covenant Church in Cromwell.
Bob enjoyed fly-fishing, boating, and cross-country skiing, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his children, eight grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucielle; his parents; three sisters, Martha Klein, Hazel Capilupo, and Audrey Burdick; two brothers, Carl and Paul; and his son-in-law, Don Helander. He is survived by his children, Robert (Judy), Sally Moon (Dennis), and Ingrid Helander; grandchildren, Brita Gotberg (Gary), Aaron Moon, Julia Keane (Jonah), Nils Helander (Elizabeth), Karl Helander, Joel Helander, Nathan Stromberg (Kara), and Lars Stromberg (Katie); and great-grandchildren, Otto, Gus, and Arnie Gotberg; Willard and Sally Keane; Lucielle, Magnus, and Clara Helander; and Ben, Greta, Juniper, Quinten, Albin, and Lydia Stromberg.
Bob will long be remembered for his warmth, generosity, sense of humor, and kind spirit. He lived by the words of Micah 6:8, striving to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with his God.
Memorials may be given to the Evangelical Covenant Church of Port Allegany.
