Bob Sutter, 73, of Bloomington passed away peacefully on 12/19/2024 surrounded by family and loved ones. A devoted patriot, selfless community servant, and cherished friend to many, Bob leaves behind a legacy of kindness, courage, and dedication.
Bob proudly served his country as a Marine, exemplifying honor, courage, and commitment throughout his military career. After retiring from the Marine Corps, he continued his life of service as a deputy sheriff, upholding justice and protecting his community with the same steadfast integrity.
For 42 years, Bob brought joy to countless children through the Marine Corps Toys for Tots, Monroe County Toys for Tots and Christmas for Kids programs in his community. His tireless efforts ensured that every holiday season was brighter for families in need, embodying the true spirit of giving and compassion.
Bob shared a deep love of RV'ing, which brought him and Sandy countless adventures and cherished memories. Together, they explored the open road, discovering new places, meeting new friends, and savoring the freedom and simplicity of life on wheels. RV'ing was more than a pastime for Bob-it was a way to create lasting bonds with loved ones, and embrace the joys of the journey. This passion for travel and exploration enriched his life and left an enduring example of how to live fully.
Known for his warm smile and a heart as big as his sense of duty, Bob was deeply loved by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His life serves as a shining example of the impact one person can have through dedication, humility, and generosity.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy, who was the love of his life; his brother, Michael; his sister, Barb; his children, Bobby (Amy) Sutter, Traci (Bill) Brewer, Shane (Cheryl) Robertson, Candy (Bert) Peck, Lesli Robertson and Leland (Kelly) Hutchens. He was a proud grandfather to Tiffany, Billy, Chris, Julia, Megan, Mallory, Grant, Caterina, Hallie, Kabrina, Casey, Nate, Jalen, Austin, Brittney, Ethan and Jessica, and a cherished great-grandfather to Cadell, Miah, Skyelyn, Colby, Sadie, Freedom, Montana, Indica, Rylee, Maverick, Mollie, Carter, Harmony, and Nyla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edna, and his brother Andy.
A celebration of Bob's extraordinary life will take place on Saturday, December 28th at 4:00 pm at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from Noon until time of services. Instead of flowers, the family warmly encourages donations to Pantry 279's or The Salvation Army's Christmas programs in his memory, supporting the mission of helping children, a cause he cherished deeply.
Bob's steadfast service and generous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Semper Fi.
