Robert Taylor Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home - Louisville on Nov. 1, 2024.
Robert "Bob" Sheward Taylor, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren on October 30, 2024. He lived a very full life to the age of 92. Bob was born in Louisville, Ky., on August 30th, 1932, to Leonard Washington Taylor and Dorothy Sheward Taylor.
He attended Saint Mark's grade school, followed by St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, Wisconsin. After graduation, he attended Bellarmine University until he was drafted into the United States Navy, where he served at sea for 4 years during the Korean war. He was a gunner's mate on the U.S.S. Liddle, buckley-class destroyer escort, where he achieved the ranking of first class.
Bob returned from the service and began working in the family business with his Father and Uncle at "The Taylor Trunk Company". Founded by Bob's grandfather in 1883, today, the luggage, leathergoods, and gift business is still thriving and family-owned by Robert S. Taylor Jr. and his two daughters, who are the fifth generation.
Bob met the love of his life, Marjorie Lee Williams, and they were married at St. Raphael Church in 1957. He was happily married for 65 years. Together, they had three children, Nanette, (Chris) Robert Jr. (Laura), and Todd (Alice), eight grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his wife Margie, his sibling Leonard Washington Taylor, Jr (Bo) and his parents, L.W. and Dorothy.
He was a longtime member of the Hurstbourne Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with his friends. He served on the Board of Directors and was proud to help the country club become what it is today. He is remembered enjoying many Hurstbourne dinners with friends and family and of course his Johnny Walker Scotch.
Bob was an avid golfer and shot his age over 150 times, with his last at 86. He was a three-time Senior Men's Club Golf Champion, a member of the hole-in-one club, and posted his final tournament victory at 84 years of age, shooting 74. He continued playing golf through his 90th year and will continue to be remembered for his accomplishments on and off the course.
Visitation is 4-7 pm on Monday, November 4, 2024 at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd. 40205. A private funeral will take place on Tuesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of his wife, Margie Taylor.

Bob was my brother-in-law who I always associated with as the man who always wore a smile. He was a dear man, an outstanding husband and father and always there to treat people with the utmost respect. He´s now with his soulmate, Margie, and I´m sure he couldn´t be happier. Helen Williams, (Jimmy´s wife). Loved the man.
