Robert Ternent Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A. - Cumberland on Dec. 1, 2025.
Robert Paul "Chunky" Ternent, of Flintstone, Maryland, passed away peacefully at the age of 75.
Born on September 19, 1950, in Cumberland, Maryland, Robert lived a life rooted in faith, service, and devotion to his family and community.
A proud Navy veteran, Robert served his country with honor from 1968 to 1972 on active duty and continued with two years of inactive duty. He was assigned to the USS Ajax, a repair ship, where he rose to the rank of Petty Officer as a Hull Technician. His time in the Navy instilled in him a deep sense of discipline and commitment that carried through every aspect of his life.
Following his military service, Robert dedicated himself to helping others as an Emergency Medical Technician for several years. His passion for service extended into his lifelong involvement with the Flintstone Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a life member. He also held memberships with the East Gate #216 AF+AM Masonic Lodge, Hancock American Legion, and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), reflecting his enduring dedication to both civic duty and camaraderie among fellow veterans.
Robert's faith was central to his life. A man of Methodist faith who loved the Lord deeply, he lived by values of
compassion and integrity. Those who knew him were touched by his unwavering belief in God and his steadfast devotion to family.
He found great joy in spending time outdoors-hunting, fishing, camping-and had a special fondness for cruising and golf. He also enjoyed coaching sports with youngsters in his community, sharing not only skills but also mentorship and encouragement. A skilled carpenter, Robert took pride in making things with his hands-a reflection of both his creativity and work ethic. He was especially close to the Valley High class of 1968 with whom he always stayed in touch.
Robert is survived by his beloved wife: Mary Louise Stotler Ternent; daughter: Wendy Paula Middlebrooks and husband, Levar Middlebrooks; step-granddaughter: Tashonna Middlebrooks; son: Robert "Robbie" Charles Ternent and significant other, Jennifer "Jenn" (Appel) Youngblood; granddaughters: Hailey Ternent and Lindsey Ternent; great-granddaughter: Adley Mae; brother: John Ternent; and sister-in-law: Carolyn Ternent; sister: Suzanne "Susie" Stotler; and brothers-in-law: Michael "Mike" Stotler, Emmett Stotler and wife, Debbie; Chuck Stotler and wife, Terry; and numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his "special" cat: Chibi.
He was preceded in death by his parents John Elliott Ternent and Edna Marie (Whiteman) Ternent; father-in-law Charles Herbert Stotler; and mother-in-law: Helen Louise (Wallizer) Stotler.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Sunday, December 7, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 12:00 P.M., with Pastor Chuck and Mike Stotler officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland Veteran's Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post #13 Veteran's Honor Guard.
Robert Paul "Chunky" Ternent will be remembered as a man who lived with purpose-serving God, country, family, and community with unwavering dedication. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
