Robert Dale Thompson, age 76, of Big Sandy, TN passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Beloved to all who had the pleasure of knowing him in life, Robert was a beacon of genuine kindness in the world.
Mr. Thompson was born on April 15, 1947 to Ericene and Vergine (Reed) Thompson of Rector, Arkansas and was the second eldest out of his five siblings. While attending Union University in Jackson, TN, he met his forever sweetheart, Sandra (Grainger). Robert and Sandra created and shared a beautiful, full life together and were blessed with 52 years of loving marriage.
Robert enjoyed surrounding himself with his friends, family, good conversation and an abundance of music. He was a talented singer and guitarist and could often be found spreading his joy of music into the surrounding communities. Robert was also quite fond of peaceful evenings spent fishing or admiring his herd of cattle grazing in the pastures. A life-long teacher, mentor and role model, Robert was an avid advocate for children’s education. Mr. Thompson served on the Benton County Board of Education up until his passing.
Robert Thompson is survived by his beautiful wife Sandra, his daughter Beth (Kim) Thompson, his grandson Copes Thompson, and his son John Thompson (Sarah Dorrance). He is additionally survived by his brother James (Mickey) Thompson, his sisters Jannette (Chris) Abernathy and Debbie (Fred) Miller and aunt, Corine Simpson.

Visitation with the public will take place on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM directly followed by a service at Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home in Big Sandy, TN with Bro. Andrew Willhite officiating.
Burial will follow at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Big Sandy, TN.
