Robert Tichy, age 88, of rural Garwin, passed away Friday, October 13th, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with family at his side.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 18th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.
Born on August 3rd, 1935, on the family farm in Carlton Township, Tama County, Iowa, (near Garwin), he was the son of Edward and Fern (Reed) Tichy. He attended Carlton Township #9 School near the Carlton Brethren Church and later the LeGrand Public Schools.
On March 30th, 1957, he was united in marriage to Donna Harrison at the Little Brown Church. They made their home at Montour, LeGrand, Garwin and Marshalltown until 1964 when they moved to their current home that they built.
Bob held a strong work-ethic, starting out self-employed in Montour doing TV and radio repair. Later, he began employment at Fisher Controls, Dunham-Bush and returned to Fisher Controls until retiring in 1992- all while farming as well. Bob farmed until age 80.
Not only was work important, but also having time off with family and friends. He enjoyed motorcycle trips, going fishing and camping as well as hunting in the fall and mushroom hunting in the spring. Bob flew a powered parachute plane and helped his brother-in-law, Vernon, build a Viking powered experimental aircraft.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Donna of 66 years, his brother-in-law, Vernon of Rhode Island, his six children: Larry (Martha) Tichy of Reinbeck, Tracy (Karen) Tichy of Garwin, DeAnna (Harley) Hembd of Marshalltown and Glendale, AZ, Alan Tichy of Garwin, Eric (Valerie) Tichy of Osage and Michael Jon (April) Tichy of Garwin; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren as well as many other family and friends

In death, Bob rejoined his parents, step-mother, Goldie, siblings: Teddy, Marlene, Louie (Lorraine), George (Mary Ann), Eva (Conrad) and daughter-in-law, Ro.
