Robert Turner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Neece Funeral Home - Waverly on Mar. 7, 2026.
Robert K. Turner, 77, of Waverly, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and three daughters.

Bob was born on February 5, 1949, in Jacksonville, Illinois, the son of Lawrence and Alta McDonald Turner. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1967. Following graduation, Bob enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1969, answering the call to serve his country. He served in Vietnam with the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, where he earned the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star Medal for his bravery and dedication.

After his honorable discharge, Bob returned home to Waverly and to the family farm, where he built a life defined by hard work, integrity, and service to others. Farming was more than his livelihood-it was his legacy.

On June 15, 1974, Bob married Gail Anne Lowe. Together they shared more than five decades of marriage and raised three daughters who were the pride of his life: Amanda (Scott) Hendricks of Waverly, Brooke (JR) Earley of Girard, and Lauren (Ryan) Miener of St. Louis, MO. He was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren: Matthew Hendricks, Abby Hendricks, Addison Earley, Camden Earley, Alyse Hendricks, Braxton Earley, Beau Miener, and Blair Miener, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Bob is also survived by his brother, Preston Turner of Waverly; his sister, Kay Handy of Ashland; and his sister-in-law, Jerilyn Turner of Zeigler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Alta Turner; his brother, Carroll Turner; his sister-in-law, Shirley Turner; and his brother-in-law, William Handy.

Bob was known for his quiet strength, humility, and unwavering commitment to others. He was a man of service-dedicated to his family, a hardworking steward of the land, a good neighbor, and a trusted friend. He served as a mentor to many young men, leading not with words but through example. His acts of kindness were often unseen and unspoken, yet deeply felt by those who knew him. Bob exemplified bravery, humility, and service without the need for recognition. He was always present-ready to teach, guide, and help whenever needed.

A faithful member of First Baptist Church, Bob served on the Board of Trustees and was actively involved on committees overseeing building renovations and additions. His commitment to his church mirrored the way he lived his life-with dedication, faith, and a servant's heart.

Bob Turner leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength that will continue to live on through his family and all those whose lives he touched.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 am. Monday (March 9, 2026) at the First Baptist Church in Waverly, Il. Burial will be at a later date at Camp Butler National Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Waverly, Il. Memorials may be given to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight or the Waverly First Baptist Church Building Fund and sent to Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 E. Tanner, Waverly, Il. 62602.
