Robert “Bob” E. Vanderlinden Jr., aged 76, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on May 2 after battling a long illness.
He is survived by his cherished wife of 55 years, Cynthia E. Vanderlinden (King); his daughter, Danielle M. Ferreira, and son-in-law David S. Ferreira of Sutton; as well as his two grandchildren, Jax E. Ferreira of Boston, and Ryan D. Ferreira of Sutton. He is also survived by his brother Timothy L. Vanderlinden of Sutton, sister Donna J. Vanderlinden of Arlington, and aunt Linda A. Olson of North Fort Meyers, FL.
Bob was predeceased by his mother, Dora B. Vanderlinden, and father, Robert E. Vanderlinden Sr. of Millbury.
Bob graduated from Millbury High School and served as a Navy Reservist, stationed in Scotland for two years. He dedicated his career to Custom Coating and Laminating/Furon/Saint-Gobain as a production manager, forming lasting friendships that extended well beyond his retirement in July of 2011.
A passionate woodworker, Bob built the home where he and Cynthia crafted their lives on land belonging to Cynthia’s family for over 300 years. Always immersed in house projects, Bob's craftsmanship created a beautiful life.
Active in his community, Bob was a proud member of the Sutton Lions Club, finding joy in giving back and the camaraderie of its members.
Bob's greatest joys were found in his grandchildren, whom he supported wholeheartedly, attending countless sports activities and providing early morning doughnuts without fail. He also found solace in reading, walks on the beach, and fishing. In his later years, he developed a love for golf, relishing the time spent on the course with friends.
In the memories of those who knew him, Bob will be remembered for his dedication to family, his love for his wife, his craftsmanship, and his commitment to chasing a par. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the cancer team at Dana-Farber Milford and Rose Monahan Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, May 17, at 11 a.m. at Old Howard Cemetery, 15 Armsby Road, Sutton.
