Robert Vargas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNett Funeral Home - Andrews on Jan. 22, 2026.
Robert Lee Vargas, a man admired for his adventurous spirit, courageous heart, and infectious humor, passed away on January 20, 2026, in Andrews, Texas. Born on September 4, 1978, in Seminole, Texas, to parents Juan Vargas, Sr. and Beatrice Gonzales Vargas. Robert's zest for life and dedication to his community left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

He attended Andrews High School and graduated with the class of 1997. His commitment to service was evident early on, as he chose to serve his country by joining the United States Armed Forces. His time in the military was marked by honor and dedication, and upon being honorably discharged, Robert continued his life of service as a Veterans Service Officer and as a volunteer firefighter and Cub Scout leader in Andrews.

Professionally, Robert was the esteemed airport manager for Andrews County, a position he held with distinction for twenty-two years. His work ethic and leadership earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Robert's personal life was equally fulfilling; he married his beloved wife, Amanda Kay Valenzuela, on June 14, 2003. Their marriage was a beautiful partnership filled with love, laughter, and the joy of raising their two children, Adam and Abby Vargas.

Robert's faith played a central role in his life as a devoted Christian. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Andrews. His Christian values were reflected in his kindness, generosity, and the way he lived his life each day.

A jack of all trades, Robert was known for his great sense of humor, keeping everyone around him laughing and uplifted. Robert loved trying out various recipes and cooking out for family gatherings. He had a profound love for the outdoors, often seeking adventure and the tranquility of nature. His spirit was uncontainable, and his presence was a source of joy and inspiration.

Robert's memory will be cherished by his loving wife Amanda Vargas of Andrews, his parents Juan Vargas, Sr., and Beatrice Gonzales Vargas of Andrews, his children Adam Vargas and fiancée Katie of Brady and Abby Vargas of Andrews, his brother Johnny Vargas and fiancée Angelica of Seguin, his sisters Christy Cabrera and her husband Sammy of Andrews, and Patti Espinosa and her husband Marco of Andrews, as well as his mother-in-law Rosalinda Valenzuela of Andrews. His family, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members, will hold Robert's legacy close to their hearts.

Robert is reunited with his father-in-law Agapito Valenzuela, his paternal grandparents Carlos and Dominga Vargas, and his maternal grandparents Concepcion and Luz Gonzales.

To Robert´s family, I offer my sincere condolences for the loss of this fine man. I became friends with Robert quite a while back. I´m a private pilot and flew into Andrews quite a bit. Robert was always quick to greet me with a big "hello" and smile. I, and many others, will truly miss him.
