Robert Vargas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - West Military Dr. on Feb. 12, 2026.
Robert Louis "Bob" Vargas, a beacon of joy and selflessness, left this world for his heavenly abode on February 9, 2026, in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on July 5, 1951, to the late Manuel and Anita Vargas, Bob's life was a testament to the power of positivity and the strength of the human spirit.

Bob, a proud graduate of South San High School, went on to serve his country with honor and distinction in the United States Marine Corps for over nine years. His dedication to service did not end there; he continued to touch lives through his 32-year-long career at Time Warner Cable.

Bob's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him through every challenge and triumph. His love for his family was unparalleled; he was a devoted husband to his wife of 38 years, Diana R. Vargas, a loving father to Robert L. Vargas Jr. and partner Rebecca Alvarez, and Monica V. Camacho and husband Jesse. He was a cherished brother to the late Johnny P. Vargas, Roland M. Vargas (and the late Cecilia), Edward J. Vargas and wife Rosemary, Gloria V. Ponce (and the late Issac), Sylvia D. Barrientes and husband Carlos, and Cynthia V. Gamez and husband George Jr. Bob's legacy continues through the joyous laughter of his grandchildren, Diego J. Camacho and Gianna O. Camacho, and the numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were touched by his generous heart.

Bob's zest for life was evident in his passions; he found solace in the rhythms of dancing, the melodies of music, and the tranquility of fishing, barbecuing, and camping. His love for adventure was only surpassed by his joy in spending time with his family, especially in playing the role of "uber" for his most precious and dearly loved grandchildren.

Described by those who knew him as selfless, friendly, and loving, Bob lived by the principle that one's true wealth is measured by the love and kindness they share with the world. He inspired others to live with purpose, to cherish every moment, and to always extend a helping hand. As Helen Keller once said, "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." Bob's spirit, his infectious laughter, and his unwavering positivity have indeed become a part of us all.

We celebrate Bob's life not with sorrow but with the joy he would have wanted. His story is not one of loss but of a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with the knowledge that he made a difference in the lives of so many. Bob's memory will be cherished and his light will continue to guide us, reminding us to face each day with love, courage, and a smile.
