Robert Charles was born on October 26, 1955, in Aledo to Don R. & Helen Marie (Rummel) Vickrey. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1974 and had just attended his High School reunion this past Friday. After High School, he attended college in Texas where he met his future wife, Donna Sutherland. They moved back to the Aledo area, where they finished college and were married on August 6, 1977, at College Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Bob and his brother, Ed took over the family business from their father, the Don R. Vickrey Insurance Agency. He was a proud supporter of all things Aledo and was a dedicated member of the Republican party in Mercer County where he served as Precinct Committeeman. Bob also served as President for the Central Committee of the Mercer County Republican Party. Bob believed in serving his community. He served on the Mercer County Board, Mercer 6 Township Trustee, Mercer County 708 Board, the Chamber of Commerce, The Jaycees, and served as a Deacon for many years at Trinity Presbyterian Church.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. In earlier years, the devoted father coached his girls in softball and helped on flag football teams for his beloved Aledo Green Dragons. Lately he especially enjoyed being a devoted Papa to Sophia, Olivia and Aiden.
Bob is survived by his wife, Donna; daughters: Amie and Alisa Vickrey of Redding, CA and Ariel (Josh “Zane”) Magdefrau of Port Byron, IL; grandchildren: Sophia, Olivia and Aiden and a brother, Edward (Julie) Vickrey of Aledo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
