Robert Gerald Virts

Robert Gerald (Bob) Virts, 79 of Waterford, VA passed away suddenly at his home on January 30, 2026. Bob was born on March 22, 1946 in Winchester, VA. He was the youngest child to the late Daniel Isaiah and Pauline Payne Virts. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Janet Wortman Virts, his brother, Donald T. Virts and great nephew, Scott Jenkins.

Bob grew up on the family farm near Waterford and was an active member of 4-H and FFA. He graduated in the first graduating class from Loudoun Valley High School in 1964 and joined the Army in 1965 and proudly served his country, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his military service he followed his passion for agriculture by attending Western Kentucky University majoring in Animal Science. After college he returned to the family farm and also worked for his brother on his Hillsboro farm.

Bob love gardening, starting his plants from seeds. He always shared his vegetables with family, friends and neighbors, and looked forward to spring and the start of the growing season. He loved to feed the birds and had several feeders. Also, he would put feed out for some of the critters that would come in his yard from the woods behind his house. He will be remembered as a man of integrity, service and heart-someone who lived simply, loved his family deeply and liked a yummy mincemeat pie.

Bob is survived by his brother, Daniel I Virts, Jr. , his wife, Evelyn, sister Jane V. McCall, her husband, Hank, many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.

Visitation will be held on February 10 at Halls Funeral Home in Purcellville, VA, beginning at 12:00 noon. A celebration of Bob's life will follow at 1:00 p.m. with burial following at the Hillsboro Cemetery. Robert Gerald Virts
