Robert Bickley Wade Sr., 74, of Monterey passed away Sunday morning, December 3, 1989 at his home.

He was born February 14, 1915 at Mill Gap, a son of Robert Howard and Lilley Belle (Wiley) Wade.

On May 3, 1947, he married Jackie S. Pullin.

He was a member of the Green Hill United Methodist Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and World War II where he was involved in the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944 and was a member of Highland VFW Post 4989.

In February 1980 he retired from the Virginia Department of Highways after 31 years of service.

In addition to his wife of Monterey, survivors include two daughters, Lillian Grace Botkin of Monterey and Linda Lee Helmick of Verona; one son, Robert Bickley Wade Jr. of Crozet; two sisters Ressie Munsee of Gaithersburg, MD and Dora D. Wade of Staunton; six grandchildren; one great-grandson and a number of nephews.

A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Richard Gibson and Dr. Robert Gue.

Burial will be in the Wade family cemetery in Mill Gap.

Pallbearers will be Stuart Hunter, Keith Scott, Hank Heiner, Richard Hesterberg, Danny Staples and Donnie Hodge.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in McDowell.

Memorials contributions may be made to Highland Rescue Squad or Monterey Fire Department, Monterey, Va. 24465.
