Robert Walker

Robert Walker, 79, East Springfield, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 15, 1946, in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Samuel and Cecile Walker. A lifelong resident of Springfield, Robert was educated in the Springfield school system and remained deeply rooted in the community. Robert proudly served the City of Springfield for many years as a 911 call taker with the Springfield Police Department, retiring in 2011. Known for his calm demeanor, quick thinking, and unmistakable voice on the line, he was a steady presence for officers and residents alike. Prior to his time in the police department, he was a cab driver for over 2 decades gaining his unmatched knowledge of every street and shortcut in the area. A devoted fan of Formula One racing, Robert rarely missed a race and could often be found enthusiastically discussing his favorite drivers and teams. He also found great companionship and joy in his beloved dog, Norton, who predeceased him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Brenda (Burroughs) Walker of Springfield. Together they built a life grounded in love, laughter, and unwavering support. He also leaves his son Maxwell Walker and his fiancée Michelle Campbell of Springfield. Family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, meeting directly at Hillcrest Park Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Byron Keenan Funeral Home &Cremation Tribute Center, 1858 Allen Street, Springfield. Robert will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his remarkable sense of direction, his love of racing, and most especially, his deep devotion to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
